I actually really like the show! I'd say that even if I wasn't in it, but because I am in it I'll say I really, REALLY like the show. They understand that history is supposed to be a story - not a bunch of inconsequential facts and dates. And the show has the right mix of specialists and regulars to keep it interesting. Keith Hughes of the YouTube channel HipHughes History and I represent the online peeps, for example, and then there's authors and professors and such.
If you don't have H2 you can always stream the episodes from their website! Support your friendly neighborhood podcaster and give it a watch - I think you'll enjoy it!

Hi Rob. I'd just like to point out that you made a mistake on United Stuff of America Episode 4 - Ultimate Engineering. The Burj Khalifa is in Dubai, not Abu Dhabi as you stated .... Cheers :)
ReplyDeleteAh crap!! Ok for future reruns just pretend every time I say Abu Dhabi I really mean Dubai!
DeleteSo before I say what I came to here to say I must say, ok a lot of "says" in there, that I love your podcast, fb page, and blog; I also love Keith Hughes and subscribe to his YouTube videos. What is driving my absolutely nuts is the lack of women historians or even the contributions of women in United Stuff of America. The History Channel has a distinct lack of history about women and only lightly peppers their historical series, which all seem to be usurped by reality TV that isn't even remotely related to history, with a few women from time to time. While I love The History Chicks' podcasts, they stick primarily to other history that drives me nuts, royals. The Stuff You Missed in History Class ladies do a great job of looking at all history. Sigh... my daughter would say that today is HOT day for me, which is why I am particularly annoyed today. I'm always annoyed at the History Channel's lack of tapping into women and our contributions beyond the, "woman behind the man," crap that I see all too often. The sad thing is, is that I will watch this series and recommend it to students researching a particular topic because unlike you and Keith Hughes I am too lazy to create my own podcast.
